International Fine Art Collector Paris Bureau
EVALUATION Grid
Selling value of a work of art, its potential value and practical current value.
In this table, the IFAC bureau in Paris offers its own system for evaluating the investment potential of
works by artists in a "three-level" market.
First level: exceptional works such as Portrait of Doctor Gachet by van Gogh.
Second level: exceptional works like the great abstract expressionists, i.e. Joseph Beuys, the
principal popular artists, etc.
Third level: recognized contemporary artists and young artists now on the market. (R.G.)
The artist is evaluated according to five large criteria ( see the table below ) with each criterion
allotted 20 possible points. Total possible: 100 points.
Given that on the third level of the market the current selling level for middle-format works
( 36"x48" ) is on the order of $20,000. each point is worth $200,
